At Winchester Cathedral, along the top of the screens to the presbytery are six caskets. Each one has been inscribed with lettering.
Surely one of the marvels of the late medieval world? The Great Screen was completed in 1476 and forms the backdrop (reredos) to the altar.
In the hope that they help others unburden and renew as much as they have for me it gives me the greatest pleasure to present - in the spirit of Hokusai - my Thirty Six Views of Beverley Minster.
We're inside a medieval building with panelled walls - the scene is part way through the installation of a traditional ceiling with decorative ribwork and motifs.
Philip Gaches and his team plaster the ceiling and then mark out the geometric shapes that will form the decorative ribwork of the ceiling pattern.

It is the humble hand where all this starts - from the first stone laid at the Roman basilica that lies beneath, through to the final carving of the pinnacles that pin down the grandeur of the Gothic church. This is a story about people.
